Get Your Game Ready for Spring: Golf Gear Checklist

Spring Is Here — Is Your Gear Ready?

Spring golf gear checklist - After a quiet winter, the golf courses across Australia are coming back to life. Longer days, firmer fairways, and better conditions mean one thing: it's time to play more golf. But before you tee it up, it's worth running through your gear to make sure everything is dialled in for the season ahead.

Here's your complete spring golf gear checklist.

1. Inspect Your Irons

Start with your irons — the workhorses of your bag. Check the grooves on each face for wear and debris. Worn grooves reduce spin and control, especially on approach shots. If you're playing forged irons, look for any dings on the face from cart paths or range mats over winter.

What to do: Clean grooves with a stiff brush and warm soapy water. If grooves are visibly worn, it may be time to consider a new set heading into your best playing months.

2. Check Your Wedges

Wedges take more wear than any other club in your bag. Groove sharpness directly impacts spin around the greens — and dull wedges will cost you strokes. Most golfers should replace their wedges every 75–100 rounds.

What to do: Run your fingernail across the grooves. If they feel smooth rather than sharp, your wedges are overdue. A fresh set of Haitch Golf wedges heading into spring is one of the highest-ROI upgrades you can make.

3. Regrip Your Clubs

Grips degrade over time — UV exposure, sweat, and humidity all break down the rubber compound, leaving you with slick, hard grips that affect control. The standard recommendation is to regrip once per year, ideally before the season ramps up.

What to do: Squeeze each grip — if it feels hard, shiny, or slick, it's time for fresh rubber. Browse our range of premium golf grips — a noticeable difference in feel and confidence, particularly in AU summer humidity.

4. Review Your Bag Setup

Spring is the perfect time to audit what's in your bag. Carry distance changes slightly as temperatures rise and the air thins. Make sure your yardages are current and your gapping is consistent across your set.

What to do: Head to the range with a launch monitor or GPS device and reconfirm carry distances for each club. Adjust your set makeup if you notice gaps or overlap.

5. Check Your Accessories

Don't overlook the small stuff — gloves, tees, ball markers, and your rangefinder batteries. These are easy to neglect over winter and easy to sort before they become a problem mid-round.

What to do: Swap out old gloves (they harden over winter), stock up on tees, and replace rangefinder batteries.
